Many of the children are interested in building houses and rockets so as a preliminary step we have integrated real tools into our work. Under close supervision each child had a turn hammering a few nails into a stump. The children concentrated on each nail, and beamed with joy when they finished. They also reminded each other to keep their hands off the stump when someone was working.
We love using real tools because it gives the children a sense of accomplishment and helps them develop fine motor, hand eye coordination and impulse control skills!
