We need our noses to explore the scents of lavender, peppermint and lemon. When asked what peace smells like the children said things like: " chocolate on my Grandpa", "frosting cake and cupcakes in the bakery" and "lavender".
We started with brainstorms about the meanings of the word peace, and talking about different sights, smells, and sounds that make us feel peaceful. We've also used collaborative art to work on practicing our problem solving skills, an important part of learning to create peace! We've created peace quilts, and group collages to connect images with the idea of peace.
As we finish our Peace explorations we will think, talk and read about specific Peacemakers, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Wangari Maathai and ourselves.
Along with all of this we have been so grateful for the relatively warm weather. The sparkling snow sets the mood for preparing for the school Light Festival at the end of the month
